FAQs
How much of the money I send to my child goes to him/her? 100% of your contribution goes to the child you support. Administrative and other general school costs (desks, building, teachers) are funded through general donations. Will I hear from my child? Depending on your child’s level of ability, you will receive letters and/or drawings from your child. How often must I write to my child and what should I say? You may write your child as frequently as you desire. Kupenda is more than supplying finances. It’s about forming relationships between sponsors and the children in need. We ask that you send your child pictures of yourself and family. It means much more to them than you can imagine. Kupenda’s children have prayed for their sponsors by name in church and become so excited at any little thing sent to them. Avoid sending large costly gifts as there are high costs affiliated with picking them up in the country and may not get to them. They will appreciate hearing stories of your life, your family, what you like to do, etc. If you have children encourage them to write and/or to draw picture for your Kupenda child. How long must I sponsor? You can sponsor for as long or short a period of time as you desire. However, you will receive communication from Kupenda reminding you of your sponsorship until you request that it stop. We do ask that you inform us when you decide to longer contribute so we can find another sponsor as soon as possible. Is child sponsorship the only way of contributing to Kupenda? No. There are many ways to contribute that are very much needed. You can send money for the general Kupenda fund, which will be used for the most pressing needs as they arise. This sometimes includes emergency care for children. You may also designate you donation towards a specific project like special needs training for teachers, classroom construction, wheelchairs, hearing aids, orthopedics, learning materials, etc. Is money the only contribution? We appreciate contributions of all types such as donations of toys, books, medical equipment, hearing aids, etc. We also appreciate any advice or connections you may have that could benefit these children. We also appreciate donations of time and ideas for fundraising opportunities. We really are very small. Where are these children? Currently Kupenda meets the needs of disabled children on the coast of Kenya in the Malindi district. However, there has already been interest expressed from other districts and countries for Kupenda services.
