Charo Shida
Before

Charo Shida is little boy with a hearing impairment that really touched Cynthia's heart. When she met him in 2001, he was living at home with his grandparents since his father had died and his mother had left him. They could not afford the approximately $90 USD per year to send him to school anymore, which Charo had once attended and really loved. It broke Cynthia's heart when he misunderstood the reason for her visit. He thought Cynthia and others would be taking him to school at that particular moment and he went into his hut to gather his belongings to go back.
After

Cynthia made it a point to send money, get him back in school, and support him personally as soon as she returned to the U.S. This makes him the first official Kupenda-sponsored child! Charo now has the benefit of attending the hearing imparied unit at the Gede School and receiving 3 meals per day, an education, and the ability to live in a community with others like himself!
