Volunteer/Research Center

Kupenda is rapidly becoming known to people across the US and the world with many wanting to visit the children Kupenda assists. Many people with skills in special needs education and/or physical therapy and other needed abilities have expressed interest in assisting with the activities of Kupenda in Kenya. There are also a lot of research needs in the area of disability in Kenya. However there is currently not a permanent place for visitors to stay nor is there anyone who would solely be responsible for the volunteers activities. The Kenya committee has determined that meeting these needs is very important.

Kupenda hopes to purchase or build a volunteer center that would better enable people to contribute their skills and abilities. There are some preliminary plans in the works for partnering with colleges and universities for internship programs that would take place at the future volunteer center. In addition to volunteers from abroad, it is hoped that this place will serve as a location for local people to participate in Kupenda activities. The center will host special needs teachers’ workshops, parent sign language training, and other educational events that would ultimately assist the special needs children along the coast of Kenya. Currently Kupenda is seeking potential sites for this center but needs to raise adequate funds in order to move forward with any potential purchase. The current estimate for purchasing a volunteer center is approximately $1,000,000 USD.
