Volunteer Opportunities

Currently Kupenda has volunteer opportunities both in the US and in Kenya, with varying levels of involvement. For more information on any of the opportunities you see here, or to contribute a special skill or project, please email volunteer@kupenda.org .

Trip Application

In Kenya:

Summer Volunteer Team: Since Kupenda currently does not have a permanent volunteer center, our only organized volunteer project in Kenya is for two weeks each summer. Typically the summer trips run in late June/early July and involve working directly with the children at a Kupenda-supported school. Volunteers have been a part of teaching special needs classes, working in physical therapy, arts and crafts projects, medical assessments in the community and playing games with the children. The total cost (including airfare) varies from $3,000-$3,500. When the volunteer center is established students and other interested volunteers will be able to stay for any period of time and simply pay for their stay at the center.
Trips are coordinated based on the interests , skills and schedules of the volunteers.
Research: There are many opportunities for research surrounding the kinds of disabilities children have and the communities they live in. While we do not yet have a formal internship/research program, please contact us for ways you might help in this area.

In the US:

Administrative Tasks: Throughout the year there are a variety of projects (newsletters, child sponsorship packets, etc.) that need lots of hands on a one-time or ongoing basis
Fund-raisers: Volunteers are needed to help coordinate and carry-out a variety of fundraisers ranging from races to concerts to dinner
Textbook Drives: Special needs textbooks are very difficult to find in Kenya. Collecting college textbooks from subjects such as physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech pathology, learning disabilities, etc. will help us to build the resource library for teachers and administrators in Kenya
Christmas Projects: Please contact us for ways that you can prepare a special gift for Kupenda kids during the Christmas season
