Urgent prayer need for kids in Kenya

Hi Kupenda supporters and friends,

I just received a disturbing phone call from our director in Kenya regarding a situation at the Gede school (where the majority of Kupenda sponsored children attend). The hardest thing is that there is nothing that can be done from here except pray so I’m hoping you’ll join me in prayer for three deaf children. I’m leaving out names but the situation is as follows….

An 11 year old girl, who is deaf, was sexually taken advantage of. She first reported to the doctor who examined her that it happened at home by a boy in her village. However, she later changed the story and instead accused two teenage boys at the Gede school. These boys were then taken away by the police and put in jail without bail and no one allowed to interpret for them (keep in mind the boys are both deaf) until Tuesday. Our director tried to offer bail for them but the police would not allow it.

We do not know all the details but one suspicion is that the parents of this little girl influenced her to change the story because they and the boy first accused are Muslim. The two boys now accused are both Christians.

I personally know one of the boys brought to jail and he is such a good kid. Many who have been to Kenya with me would know him and feel similarly. The teachers and our director also believe both boys are outstanding young men.

I’m told that the school has not been in operation since this happened and we don’t know when it will be. An incident like this could severely damage the good work we are trying to accomplish in Kenya as well as the lives of three special children.

Please pray that the truth will be revealed and that all the children involved will be protected.
